Restriction of Social Media Access on Company Networks

After reviewing our internet usage over the past year, it has come to our attention that certain branches have consumed an excessive amount of data on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, YouTube, Netflix, Instagram, and Facebook. For example:
● One branch used 1.6TB of data on TikTok alone, equating to approximately 2,286 hours (95 days) of continuous video scrolling.
● Another branch consumed 3.08TB on Facebook, equivalent to 12,320 hours (513 days) of activity on a single platform.
This level of usage is unsustainable and directly impacts our network performance, affecting critical business operations such as email, VoIP calls, remote support, and security systems. Our company network is intended for work-related purposes, and such high levels of social media activity indicate misuse of company resources.
Network Policy Update:
Effective 17 January 2025, access to TikTok, Facebook, and other non-business-related social media platforms will be restricted on the company network. This measure is necessary to:
● Ensure bandwidth is available for essential business operations
● Improve overall network performance and reliability
● Enhance productivity and reduce unnecessary distractions
● Uphold a professional workplace environment, ensuring employees remain attentive and engaged while assisting clients
We understand that social media plays a role in communication and marketing; therefore, authorized business accounts will still have controlled access where necessary. Employees requiring access to social media platforms for legitimate work purposes or any non-work related purposes, should contact the IT department for approval.
