Memo : Saving Electricity by Proper Appliance Shutdown

24 April 2024

Reason for Memorandum:

It has come to our attention that there has been a recurring issue within our company

premises regarding the unnecessary use of electrical appliances after closing time. This

negligent behavior is not only detrimental to our efforts in conserving energy but also poses significant challenges, particularly for areas reliant on solar power.

Leaving electrical appliances operational beyond the stipulated office hours not only

escalates our electricity consumption but also places undue strain on our power resources.

This not only increases our current energy bills but also undermines our commitment to

sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The following must be implemented with immediate effect:

1. Appointment of a Responsible Individual: The direct supervisor/managers of

the area AND a designated staff member will be appointed each day to ensure that

all office areas are properly closed, and all electrical appliances are switched off at

the end of the working day. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the

shutdown process and ensuring compliance with the established protocols.

2. Comprehensive Shutdown Procedure: It is mandatory for all staff members to

ensure that all lights, air conditioners, fans, and any other electrical appliances not in

use, are switched off before leaving the premises at the end of the day. Failure to

adhere to this protocol will result in disciplinary action.

3. Enforcement of Policy: Should any unnecessary appliances be found to be left

on after hours, immediate steps will be taken to rectify the situation. This may include

notifying the individual responsible, implementing corrective measures, and initiating

disciplinary proceedings as deemed necessary.

It is imperative that every member of our office community takes ownership of their

role in conserving energy and reducing our environmental footprint. By adhering to

these guidelines, we can collectively contribute to a more sustainable and

environmentally conscious workplace.

Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
